Investigate a third, markup-oriented theme language for defining the widget composition of game views. It should let theme authors choose nesting, set layout attributes such as grid spans, and compose existing game layout widgets with generic controls, while establishing viable ownership, focus, input, reload, and navigation semantics before committing to implementation.

Decided on KDL. The manifest and views will be in the same file, optionally imported from other KDL files. Nodes of a view are generic widgets only; comp widgets are created on C++ side in named slots of the view.

Decided on [KDL](https://kdl.dev/). The manifest and views will be in the same file, optionally imported from other KDL files. Nodes of a view are generic widgets only; `comp` widgets are created on C++ side in named *slots* of the view.
